Background.

Wellness has come to be an integral part of today’s global economy, a $3.7 trillion industry in 2015.

One of the sectors experiencing the fastest growth is ”Fitness & Mind Body”, which includes the global multibillion-dollar industry of Health & Fitness Clubs (i.e. Gyms). Despite consistent year over year growth, the Health & Fitness Club industry has several inefficiencies and competitive disadvantages that could affect its future evolution; this presents several untapped opportunities

Opportunity.

The rise and convenience of virtual fitness options such as Peloton, puts traditional Health & Fitness clubs in a competitive disadvantage. Furthermore, their subscription based business model creates a barrier to participation and recurring costs, requires recurring value. 

Opportunities remain in member retention and member acquisition. Studies show that approximately 8 of 10 Americans do not have Health & Fitness Club memberships. Additionally, 50-70 % unsubscribe within 6 months.

This, despite the fact that 81% of millennials, the largest generational demographic in US history, exercise regularly or would consider it. However, only 48% participate in gym-related activities.
